
In the Wolof language, Jappoo means „exchange“; this word is also an acronym for the things the organisation most values:Youth (Jeunesse in French), Altruism, Professionalism, Openness
and Optimism. The organisation was created in 2006 in Mbour, Senegal, and works in the sectors of farming &organic farming, fishing, sustainable/ethical tourism, food processing and training, construction and engineering; it aims to promote local products and support partner structures and local product markets, support the youth of Mbour in their attenmpt to create and/or take up jobs valorising their know-how, promote renewable energies for the benefit of all, carry out feasibility studies, business plans and look for ways to finance suitable projects, as well as support the local community in learning computer science, management and development policy.
Jappoo developpement is a local development agency functioning as an association; its objectives have begun to concretise following the creation of a restaurants chain called Escales Jappoo ("Jappoo stop over" in English) that employ about 30 young people.
In addition, this associationg is in the process of creating a solidarity fund, which is to be called Jappoo Investment.
