IDES invests in the equity of enterprises in the social economy that want to expand their activities while preserving their independence. IDES stands for "Development Institute for the Social Economy".
DES was created in 1983 to allow Social Economy  institutional to invest  part of their reserves in the equity of social economy enterprises.

Background  

IDES was set up with an equity of EUR 7,500,000. Since 1987, IDES' equity is EUR 10,707,824.

In 1990 mutuals, the "Confederation Générale des SCOP" and the "Caisse de Crédit Coopératif" created the ESFIN holding company. They then created ESFIN Participations, SPOT and SOFICATRA.

Activities

Since its creation IDES has invested some EUR 45,000,000 in 327 businesses (co-operatives, Unions d'Economie Sociale and their affiliates) Its present portfolio amounts EUR 12,134,000 invested in 109 businesses.

Guarantee operations have been transferred to France-Active in 2002

Other affiliates of ESFIN-IDES group

  • ESFIN Participation's share capital is EUR 19,778,430. The company invests in equity (shares, convertible bonds, blocked current accounts). The amount ranges between EUR 75,000 and EUR 300,000. Currently the company has 61 participations for a total amount of EUR 12,134,000.

  • SOFICATRA is the first European venture capital company investing in the Social Economy. The company takes minority holdings and provides long-term participative loans and convertible bonds. It's a network of financial partners from the main EU members. It contributes to the creation of partnerships in Europe. It takes part in the programme of the European Commission - the Joint European Venture- and offers financial technical support to developing SMEs. SOFICATRA has implemented financial tools allowing workers to become shareholders of their  company. SOFICATRA is currently invested in 18 enterprises for a total amount of 6,050,000 euros.

  • SPOT has share capital of EUR 3.8 million. It aims at participating in co-operative equity. So far, it has 54 participations, which amounts to EUR 2,9 million. SPOT participates in the creation, the transformation, the creation/take over of companies. Sometimes SPOT will provide a business plan for those companies.
